CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A ramp closure will take place Thursday, impacting two of uptown Charlotte's biggest roadways for the next two months.
This new project will affect thousands of commuters.

The southbound ramp from Interstate 77 to the outer loop of the Brookshire Freeway will be shut down for the next two months as crews build a new noise barrier wall.

The detour that's going to be in place will take drivers on I-77 southbound to 5th Street, where they will take Graham Street over to 12th Street, and then re-access the Brookshire Freeway.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the small stretch of 5th Street can get about 16,000 to 17,000 cars in a day. There are already lane closures there as well.
"Even worse, because of the developing condos, apartments, the amount of people that are in this area. And it really depends on the time too,” driver Ebony Johnson said.
Another option is to take I-77 southbound to I-85 to also access the Brookshire.
